These are
just some of my personal tips for playing poker, whether I am playing
Texas Hold Em, Omaha, Stud, or any other variation. These I feel
are general rules that should be followed when playing poker. They
will in no way guarantee your success as a poker player, but may
help improve your outlook on the game.
1. Playing poker is
a game of skill. Yeah the cards dealt for the most part are completely
random, however, the way in which you play those cards is where
the skill comes in.
2. Body language comes
into play when you are at a real table with real people. True poker
players can read an opponents eyes and facial expressions that will
help them determine what to do next. This is why you see most people
wearing sunglasses, hats, etc in tournaments!
3. Never play when
you are upset, mad, frustrated, etc. This will cloud your judgement
and cause you to do things you normally would'nt do.
4. Don't play drunk.
See number 3 above for the reason.
5. Trust your instincts!
Nine times out of ten you will make the right call!
6. If you are just
starting out playing poker, then I recommend you play at a site
that offers FREE MONEY. Also, see my page on Building
Your Bankroll.
7. I also recommend
you read a few books on basic poker to help you understand the mechanics
and principles of the game. Amazon, eBay, or your local bookstore
are a great place to find these.
8. Take break! I recommend
10 minutes per hour of play.
9. Never go All In
unless you are certain you have the nuts!
10. Remember to have
fun! If you are not enjoying something, then don't do it! Poker
is not my life, just something I do on top of all of life's other
daily requirements.
